PAOK vs Kerkyra
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 30 April 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
PAOK did what looked (and was indeed) very-very difficult, overcome a 2-0 first leg defeat at Panathinaikos, to qualify for the Cup final, thrashing the ‘Greens’ 4-0 on Thursday at Toumba, writing a special page in their history. Coach Ivic is expected to rest some players, given that their Cup semi against Panathinaikos was just 72 hours earlier, and the Cup final against AEK is in a week, before the play-offs start. Plus, centre-back Fernando Varela, left-back Marin Leovac, central midfielder Evgen Shakhov and centre-forward Stefanos Athanasiadis are all suspended. Should be noted that PAOK are still hoping to win the championship title, despite being six points behind Olympiakos. The Piraeus club are under investigation for events that happened in a Cup game against AEK. There is already a decision made, Olympiakos have been ordered to play their next four home games without fans, but the case is still open, and there is a slim-slim chance to see points deducted from Olympiakos, up to six. The play-offs will not start before the case is closed for good, which can be in as many as two weeks.
After losing four straight games by a total score of 0-14, last weekend Kerkyra took advantage of the fact that Panionios traveled without many key players and managed to beat them, 1-0, the first Kerkyra goal in 410 minutes. Defensive midfielder Kyriakos Andreopoulos asked to have his contract discontinued for personal reasons, the club accepted his request and has already left the team. Kerkyra have won twice away from home this season, at Atromitos and Asteras Tripolis, but to ‘steal’ even a point at Toumba they will need to outdo themselves, no matter if PAOK are expected to play with some players who are not usually in the starting lineup.
PAOK vs Kerkyra: Head-to-head Stats
In their last six Super League games against Kerkyra, both in Thessaloniki and Corfu (Kerkyra), PAOK have won five times, and one game ended in a goalless draw.
PAOK vs Kerkyra: Prediction
PAOK are huge favourites to win, but betting-wise their win itself looks very poor, at 1.10, so someone needs to come up with something… special to actually earn something out of PAOK’s very probable dominance in this game.
PAOK vs Kerkyra: Tips
PAOK played against Panathinaikos in a very demanding game just 72 hours earlier, but they have the roster to give some regulars a much needed rest. The stadium is expected to be close to full, fans want to continue celebrating the triumph over Panathinaikos, the morale of Ivic’s players is super high, so everything considered, I’m backing PAOK to win in an over 3.5 goals game, which pays 1.80.
