PAOK vs Olympiakos Piraeus
Competition: Greece Super League
Date: 10 February 2019
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
It feels like this is the match PAOK have been waiting for all season, the game the club have been waiting for… almost 35 years, since the last time they won the championship title. Six points ahead of Olympiakos in the table (eight actually, but they started the season carrying a -2 penalty from last year), it feels like this game may… not guarantee PAOK 100% that they’ll win the championship, but definitely may prove a big, HUGE step towards finally breaking the spell. Last weekend’s 1-1 at AEK, in Athens, playing with 10 men for more than 60 minutes, proved once again that this season’s PAOK have everything needed to lift the trophy. Midweek, they lost 2-1 at Panionios, in a Cup match, despite taking the lead, but they have the return leg at home to make sure they qualify for the semifinals. Important details: an experienced Spanish referee is officiating this match, not a Greek clown dressed as a referee. Second, there will be a net all around the playing field, so that last season’s “incident” cannot repeat itself. Last year, the game between these two in Thessaloniki never started, Olympiakos won it 0-3, because their coach got hit by a roll of toilet paper seconds before kickoff.
This is it for Olympiakos… Even if they win this match, they’ll still be second, three points behind leaders PAOK, but at least they will be within striking distance. If they draw and the gap between the two remains at six points, Olympiakos will be dreaming of a mini miracle to win the championship. If they lose, and the gap grows to nine points, it will be pretty much over, no matter if there will be 10 matches left. Olympiakos have been doing great in 2019, winning all five Super League matches, and being very close to qualifying for the Cup semifinals, after drawing 3-3 midweek at Lamia. Last season, they “won” in Thessaloniki (not really) the way they did(…), but this season they’ll actually have to play, sweat, not steal the game in an office.

PAOK vs Olympiakos Piraeus: Head to head Stats
One win for PAOK, three for Olympiakos, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Thessaloniki. Keep in mind though that last season, Olympiakos won 0-3 in an… office, not on the field, as the game never started, and back in March 2016 they won another match 0-3 inside the four walls of an office.
PAOK vs Olympiakos Piraeus: Prediction
I have a lot of faith in PAOK. This is their year, they have, finally, the right mentality to put an end to three and a half decades without a single championship title. A draw wouldn’t be a bad result for them, but I trust them to win, partly because they haven’t forgotten how Olympiakos stole that match in Thessaloniki last year.
PAOK vs Olympiakos Piraeus: Betting Tips
PAOK’s win pays 2.38. I’m leaving goals aside, I’m staying with this 2.38.
