PAOK vs Panathinaikos
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 9 April 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Easy 2-0 win at Atromitos, good display, no new injuries, up to second spot in the table, it couldn’t really have gone any better for PAOK on Wednesday. Even Prijovic had some good news for coach Ivic and PAOK fans, since he seems to be doing great after his injury, and should return to action way earlier than initially estimated. Whoever finishes second in the regular season doesn’t have a huge advantage entering the play-offs, but a small advantage exists indeed, and that’s what PAOK and Panathinaikos are after in this game, with the visitors just one point behind the hosts. It should be noted that three days after this game, PAOK and Panathinaikos face each other again, this time in Athens, in the first leg of their Cup semifinals. Ivic cannot count on Prijovic, and of course on Mystakidis, who got injured last weekend, and will stay sidelined for six months. Actually, his team-mates dedicated their win at Atromitos to him, holding his jersey while celebrating their goals.
Win against Olympiakos, win against AEK away from home, win against Panionios, when you have three wins in a row against top-five teams, you have every reason to be full of confidence, and full of confidence they are indeed at Panathinaikos. Midfielder Lod got injured on Thursday against Panionios and will miss this game, but the visitors have the roster to cope with practically any absence, excluding Berg’s, who, thankfully for them, has remained healthy this season, and is in spectacular form. Panathinaikos need the win to finish second. Most of all, they want the win so as to send a clear message who the ‘boss’ will be in the play-offs, which will decide who will fight next season in the Champions League qualifiers.
PAOK vs Panathinaikos: Head-to-head Stats
Two wins for PAOK, two for Panathinaikos, and one draw, in their last five Super League games at Tumba.
PAOK vs Panathinaikos: Prediction
These two have the best records in the Super League in the last five game weeks, it gives you an idea how hot both of them are, so in games like this it’s really-really different to say who has the upper hand. PAOK play at home and haven’t conceded a single goal in the last three games, but AEK had a similarly great record up until last weekend, when they hosted Panathinaikos, and they went 0-2 down in a matter of three minutes (24′-27′), before losing the game 2-3 with a last-minute Berg goal. Draw. It feels less risky than backing one of the two to win.
PAOK vs Panathinaikos: Tips
PAOK are considered by betting companies favourites to win this game, but betting against this Panathinaikos is like playing with fire. I’m going with draw, a result that won’t be fantastic for any of the two, but not a disaster either. If you don’t want to have to worry about the result, go with both teams to score.
