PAOK vs Veria
Competition: Greek Super League
Date: 19 February 2017
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
The word disappointment is too poor to describe what everyone at PAOK feels right now, after the loud slap on the face by Schalke, in their UEFA Europa League clash. Before losing 0-3 to the German side, PAOK had 13 wins in their last 15 matches. From 8th in the Super League, they climbed to 2nd (now 3rd), they have practically qualified to the Cup semifinals, while in the Europa League’s group stage they managed to perform a small miracle and qualify to the last 32, despite looking almost doomed after the groups’ 4th game-day. Good news for PAOK is that Swiss striker Prijović is back. He wasn’t eligible to play against Schalke.
New coach for Veria. The people in charge of the worst performing team in the Super League, felt they had to do something to shake things up, so it now falls on the shoulders of Serbian Dostanić to prove that he has what it takes to get Veria out of their slump. Featuring Super League’s worst defense and offense, it’s no wonder that Veria are last, and, subsequently, top favourites to be relegated. The difference though between their 16th spot, and the 14th that is good enough to stay in the Super League, is just one point, and the arrival of a new coach, combined with the signing of Iliadis, a very experienced attacking midfielder, give them reason enough to hope.
PAOK vs Veria: Head-to-head Stats
PAOK, PAOK, and PAOK. It’s all about them when they face Veria. Especially in the last 20 years, the Thessaloniki club have won almost all their games against their neighbors, both at home and away. Veria did grab a 0-0 draw back in October, though.
PAOK vs Veria: Prediction
After the disappointing loss to Schalke, the game against Veria offers PAOK players the chance to… not exactly redeem themselves, but at least to heal part of the wound. They play against one of the two worst teams of the league, they have Serbian striker Prijović back (he made an instant impact upon his signing from Legia Warsaw, but unfortunately for PAOK he wasn’t eligible to play against Schalke), attacking midfielder Pelkas should also be back after recovering from an injury, and despite Veria having a new coach (something that usually pushes players to give a little, or a lot, extra something), PAOK should win the game.
PAOK vs Veria: Tips
A simple PAOK win pays practically nothing. Even an over 2.5 goals looks poor. PAOK to score 3+ goals, and Prijović to score at least once, is a combination worth cosidering.
