Persepolis vs Al Sadd
Competition: AFC Champions League
Date: 16 April 2018
Kick-off: 17:00 CET
“Under 2.5 goals” (1.70) was my main tip two weeks ago when Persepolis visited Nasaf Qarshi, explaining why a goalless draw or a 1-1 would be absolutely fine by them. The Tehran side earned a goalless draw in a match that had hardly any big scoring chances, a result more than enough for Persepolis to qualify mathematically for the last 16 of the competition. They are on 10 points, three more than Nasaf, but even if they finish level, they still have the advantage, thanks to their 3-0 win at home. What is at stake in this match, is the top spot in the group, with Al Sadd leading by two points before kick-off. Persepolis dropped two points at home last Wednesday in Iran’s championship, but they… couldn’t care less. They are 11 whole points ahead of second-placed Saipa, with two matches left, having secured the championship title.
Al Sadd’s win combined with over 2.5 goals was my main tip two weeks ago when they hosted Al Wasl, and it came good, as the Qatar side won 2-1. Baghdad Bounedjah scored again, twice, his goals number six and seven in the group stage. He is the top scorer of the competition thus far. A simple draw will be enough for them to finish first in the group. A week ago, Al Sadd played their last game of the season in their championship in Qatar, absolutely destroying Al Kharitiyath. Final score, 9-1(!), a small… consolation for them, as they had already lost the title. They finished second, 11 whole points behind champions Al Duhail. They have a Crown Prince Cup semifinal coming up, against Al Rayyan. A title is at stake there. Midfielder Abdul Kareem Hassan, a key player at Al Sadd, is out due to cards.

Persepolis vs Al Sadd: Head to head Stats
Persepolis have never hosted Al Sadd before.
Persepolis vs Al Sadd: Prediction
Both teams have qualified. The difference is, Persepolis are – obviously – playing at home, which gives them a bigger motive to win the game. Plus, their next game is not really important, unlike Al Sadd’s, who will need to look at their best in a few days, when they face Al Rayyan. All things considered, I’m backing the hosts to win.
Persepolis vs Al Sadd: Betting Tips
A simple Persepolis win is at 1.61. I don’t expect more than two goals, “under 2.5” pays 1.95, much more if combined with Persepolis’ win.
