Philippines vs China
Competition: AFC Asian Cup
Date: 11 January 2019
Kick-off: 14:30 CET
The Philippines lost to South Korea on their Asian Cup debut, but all in all, they left positive impressions. They missed the best chance in the first half, had another one, bigger, in the second half while the game was still at 0-0, and generally, until the 65th minute, they didn’t really look inferior on the pitch, no matter if they were facing South Korea, one of the continent’s greats. The Korean goal in the 67th minute changed things; with Korea more focused on their defense, the Philippines failed to create more chances, and were a bit lucky not to concede again. Defeat, 0-1, but I repeat, all in all they left positive impressions.
The final whistle at China vs Kyrgyzstan the other day left me wondering what would have happened, how the game would have ended, if Pavel Matiash, Kyrgyzstan’s goalkeeper, a guy standing 1.97m tall, hadn’t made probably the most horrible mistake of his entire career to gift China their equalizer in the 50th minute. His mistake (even his… lukewarm effort to avoid the second goal, in the 78th minute), was so big and… hard to explain, that is the very definition of… conspiracy theorists’ bread and butter, people who tend to see scandals everywhere, including in football. China won 2-1 despite going 0-1 down late in the first half, three points earned, and… someone can claim that goalkeeping mistakes are part of the game (of course they are), but regardless, China need to improve, and a lot.

Philippines vs China: Prediction
China are considered big favorites to win the game. Personally, I’m leaving winners and losers aside, basing my tip on my expectation to see a Philippines goal.
Philippines vs China: Betting Tips
“Both teams to score”, at 2.08, is my tip, really counting on the Filipinos to score. They looked so enthusiastic and… gutsy against South Korea, they came close to scoring, so I can see them go all the way this time, against a weaker rival. On the other hand, I don’t expect them to win, hence my “both teams to score” tip.
