Piast Gliwice vs Gornik Zabrze
Competition: Poland Ekstraklasa
Date: 3 March 2017
Kick-off: 20:30 CET
Piast Gliwice’s double chance (1.75) was my main tip midweek, when they visited Arka Gdynia, despite the fact that there is a serious gap between the two in the table (nine points). Piast’s (1-0) win in “draw no bet” was my other tip, hoping to see their coach start the game with Michal Papadopulos. He didn’t, he only sent him in at halftime, generally Piast looked rather ok with getting that point, and that’s what they did, left Gdynia with a goalless draw. They are 13th in the table, just three points above Sandecja (at the bottom), but despite their low position they have reasons to hope that they will finish the season with at least two teams below them. With their roster, it would be… crazy to see them get relegated.
I’m not the one to tell the Poles how to run things in their country, but I can’t help thinking that a March to November season would work miracles with the attendance at their stadia. When you see Gornik Zabrze sell just over 6000 tickets for a home game, the same team that started the season selling out game after game after game even against modest opponents, then… you realize that watching football in Poland in February is a… very unpleasant pastime. It’s just too cold, almost unbearably cold. Their national team will be in Russia this June, obviously changing their calendar would be a… logistics nightmare, but… on the other hand, playing games at practically empty stadia, with teams struggling to perform half of what they are really capable of, doesn’t do Polish football any good. Gornik drew 0-0 at home midweek to Pogon, and given how the pitch and the overall weather conditions were, you couldn’t really expect any of the two to play at their best.

Piast Gliwice vs Gornik Zabrze: Head to head Stats
Three wins for Piast, one for Gornik, and a draw, in the five games between these two in Gliwice the last 10 years. Three of those five matches went over 2.5 goals.
Piast Gliwice vs Gornik Zabrze: Prediction
If this were… April, I would be suggesting “over 2.5 goals” with my eyes closed. Now, on this pitch, I feel under 2.5 goals is the way to go.
Piast Gliwice vs Gornik Zabrze: Betting Tips
“Under 2.5 combined goals” pays 1.82 and is the only tip I feel comfortable giving. I just don’t trust the pitch to allow Gornik and Piast to play the attacking football they both love (with Gornik being way more effective that Piast, no doubt). If I absolutely had to choose a result, I would go for draw, at 3.25.
