Platanias vs Olympiakos
Competition: Greece Cup
Date: 20 December 2017
Kick-off: 16:15 CET
For a team that had (and still have) just six points from their first 14 (now 15) matches of the season in the Super League, Platanias actually did great against PAOK last weekend, losing “only” 1-0 at home, making it super difficult to the Thessaloniki side first to take the lead, and second to finish the game off. It was Platanias’ 11th loss in a row(!), in all competitions. Don’t be misled by their 3-0 over Iraklis you may see on some websites, that Cup match was never held because Iraklis were not eligible to compete. I repeat, 11 defeats in a row, scoring just four goals in those matches, incredible numbers, especially remembering how the team looked last year, when, just a few weeks before the end of the regular season, they were challenging for a top-5 (playoffs) spot.
PAOK and Panionios were drawn against the two Football League (second division) teams in this round of 16, but Olympiakos’ draw was almost as good. They are facing the weakest, by far, team of the Super League, and they even have the return leg at home, next month. Last weekend they struggled to beat PAS Giannina at home (1-0), but they did earn all three points, and will finish 2017 leading in the championship, taking perfect advantage of the fact that AEK threw two precious points to the trashcan while hosting Apollon Smyrnis. Weeks ago, when things at Olympiakos were just starting to get better (after their negative first weeks in the season), their coach and players kept saying that they would be first by the end of the calendar year, and they were proven right.

Platanias vs Olympiakos: Head to head Stats
The last three games between these two in Crete have ended in a draw. Before that, Olympiakos had back-to-back wins. Three of the last five matches went over 3.5 (not just 2.5) goals.
Platanias vs Olympiakos: Prediction
This is a chance for Olympiakos’ coach to give game time to players who don’t normally start matches in the Super League (let alone in the Champions League group stage), but even playing with some reserves, Olympiakos should still win the game, facing the biggest, by far, disappointment of the season thus far in Greece.
Platanias vs Olympiakos: Betting Tips
A simple Olympiakos win pays just 1.30. I don’t see why this game cannot go over 2.5 goals (1.67). Platanias conceded just one goal last weekend at home against PAOK, but their motive to get something out of that match was much bigger (to improve their pitiful position in the Super League table). “Olympiakos and over 2.5 combined goals” promise a decent 1.90.
