Ponte Preta vs Atletico Paranaense
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 15 November 2017
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
I backed Ponte Preta to score last weekend at Coritiba (“both teams to score”, at 2.00 betting odds, was one of the suggestions here), but truth is, they did better than what I expected, earning a draw in Parana. They were mere spectators in the first half, but they definitely ruled the game once the second half started, and were rewarded with their 65th-minute goal by Léo Gamalho, his third of the season (in nine appearances). Ponte were really unlucky to get equalized in less than 60 seconds. “Unlucky”, because one of the defenders reached the ball first preventing Yan from shooting, but the ball got deflected off Coritiba’s player, and went in. The last 25-30 minutes (added time included) the ball went up and down. Ponte could have won the game, could have lost, so the final 1-1 kind of did both teams justice (as much as possible). Ponte remain below the relegation line, three points behind Vitoria, the first team right above the relegation zone.
Atletico Paranaense had back-to-back losses and just one point from their last three games before traveling to Rio de Janeiro to face Botafogo last weekend, but in 90 minutes they had more luck than in their last three games combined. First, they avoided conceding in good Botafogo chances to take the lead. Then, they scored a goal gifted to them by Fogao’s goalkeeper, one of his few mistakes this season, but one that was meant to decide the game. Last, Atletico saw Botafogo miss even more chances, and even like that, they reached a precious 1-0 win, which has them 12th in the table, at the edge of the spots that lead to next season’s Copa Sudamericana. That, earning a Sudamericana spot, is the absolute minimum for Atletico, to kind of save this – unsuccessful – season.

Ponte Preta vs Atletico Paranaense: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Ponte Preta (3-2 and 2-1), and one for Atletico (3-4!) in the last four years. Before that, the most recent game between these two in Campinas was back in 2006.
Ponte Preta vs Atletico Paranaense: Prediction
Looking at the table you realize that Ponte Preta have a much bigger motive than Atletico to fight for all three points, as not even a draw would be a particularly positive result for them. Still, I’m hesitant to back them to win, not without the safety net of “draw no bet”, which pushes their victory low. I definitely expect goals from both sides, though.
Ponte Preta vs Atletico Paranaense: Betting Tips
Ponte’s double chance pays too little, just 1.26. Their win in “draw no bet” pays better, 1.45, which is still low, though. “Both teams to score” is at 2.00 betting odds, and is my main tip.
