Ponte Preta vs Botafogo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 20 August 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
At this point, it’s almost… funny. Ponte Preta have three 0-0 draws in a row, three, something more than unusual. Their last one was at Sport Recife, a good result actually, given that Sport are in the top five, having a very-very good season, despite their latest ups and downs. Yago, Ponte Preta’s 24-year-old center-back is back from injury (he was out for quite some time) and could be given some game time. Not losing is great, but just drawing over and over again is not going to do Ponte Preta any good in the long run. They are just above the relegation line, Sao Paulo should, at some point, get their act together, Chapecoense same thing, so if those two start playing like… Sao Paulo and Chapecoense, and earn a few spots in the table, Ponte Preta will be in imminent danger of falling below the relegation line.
A 0-0 at home in a first leg doesn’t look like much, it’s not, but… it’s not that bad either, if you think about it. Botafogo failed to beat Flamengo midweek in a Copa do Brasil semifinal, but they did manage to avoid conceding, meaning that a draw with goals, any draw with goals, will be good enough for them in the return leg, to qualify for the final, and be that much closer to winning a title. Last weekend, Botafogo beat Gremio at home, 1-0, big win, given Gremio’s excellent season. On another note, Botafogo publicly denounced their fan who attacked verbally, racially, family members of Vinicius Jr, the youngster who plays for Flamengo, and has already been signed by Real Madrid. He won’t be allowed to watch any more home games of Botafogo, and that’s the least of his worries, as he is in trouble with the Law as well.

Ponte Preta vs Botafogo: Head to head Stats
Ponte Preta have hosted Botafogo only three times the last decade. One win for each, and one draw. No game has gone over 2.5 goals.
Ponte Preta vs Botafogo: Prediction
Given that Botafogo have just played a huge Copa do Brasil game, and have an even more important one coming up in a few days, I can see why betting companies consider Ponte Preta clear favorites to win. I don’t trust the hosts though, so I’m leaving winners and losers aside, and I’m going with goals instead.
Ponte Preta vs Botafogo: Betting Tips
I see a maximum of one goal in this match, maybe even none, so I’m going not with ‘under 2.5 goals’, but with ‘under 1.5’, which pays a very good 2.50. Let me remind you, Ponte Preta’s last three games were goalless draws, and even Botafogo’s three of the last four games had either none or just one goal.
