Ponte Preta vs Sao Paulo
Competition: Brazilian Serie A
Date: 4 June 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Ponte Preta shocked Atletico Mineiro in the first minutes of the second half last weekend, they took a 2-1 lead, and ended up leaving Belo Horizonte with a point that most probably they didn’t expect when they traveled there. Big news for coach Gilson Kleina and the team in general is that attacking midfielder Renato Caja and center-forward Emerson Sheik are both available to play, even though most probably they will not start. Renato Caja has played in only three games in 2017, due to an injury, while Emerson Sheik hasn’t played since the end of last year, spending the last months working on his physical condition. He is 38, so getting back to action wasn’t that simple.
Sao Paulo played like Sao Paulo last weekend, and, as I had predicted, they beat Palmeiras in the local derby. Lucas Pratto scored again, showing that he is in great form. That was Sao Paulo’s second consecutive 2-0 win at home, and now it’s time for them to show that they can carry on with the good performances on the road. This last week, Sao Paulo agreed to sell right winger Luiz Araujo and defensive midfielder Thiago Mendes to French club Lille, and coach Rogerio Ceni said in a Press conference that he expects the club to move towards using the money to sign new players, so as to strengthen the squad, and preferably add a bit more depth in the bench. It should be noted that Sao Paulo have already sold three players (Luiz Araujo and Thiago Mendes not included) to European clubs since the beginning of 2017, and according to reports they are not… done yet, selling, with Ajax very much interested in signing 20-year-old left-back Junior Tavares.
Ponte Preta vs Sao Paulo: Head-to-head Stats
Ponte Preta have three consecutive 1-0 wins over Sao Paulo as hosts.
Ponte Preta vs Sao Paulo: Prediction
Ponte Preta are considered favorites to win the game, which suits me just fine, because it makes Sao Paulo’s win pay very well. I’m not overlooking the fact that Ponte Preta have been doing very well lately at home, even that 2-2 at Atletico Mineiro last weekend was kind of impressive, but I do expect Sao Paulo to build on their back-to-back home wins, going on performing like… Sao Paulo.
Ponte Preta vs Sao Paulo: Tips
‘Draw or Sao Paulo’ is at 1.60. I feel confident enough to suggest a Sao Paulo win, at 3.10. Pratto to score anytime pays 2.60. Pratto to score anytime and Sao Paulo to win 2-1, is a combination that pays 19.00.
