Real Madrid vs Gremio
Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
Date: 16 December 2017
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
What a shock this would have been… Playing against Al Jazira in the semifinal, Real Madrid went 1-0 down late in the first half, and early in the second part they “conceded” again, but were lucky to see the goal annulled, as the scorer was just marginally offside. Ronaldo made it 1-1 soon after that, and Bale scored the winner in the 81st minute, seconds, just seconds, literally, after getting sent in by Zidane. Truth is, Real Madrid should have won much more easily. They had 35(!) attempts, 12 of those on target, two posts (both by Benzema), and several chances to… take care of the qualification for the final much earlier. My tip was “under 3.5 goals”, at 2.10, and it came good, even though, in full honesty, I didn’t expect Al Jazira to score. They did, with their only shot on target in the entire game.
I have no doubt Real Madrid do want to win the game, add another title to their collection, retain the badge of the FIFA Club World Cup winners on their jersey for another year, but equally, I have no-no-no doubt that Gremio’s player want this more, even more, knowing how important this is to their fans. In Europe, winning this competition is seen as a welcome bonus, but no Real Madrid fan is going to lose his sleep over losing in the final. Gremio’s fans? If they lose? They will know they will have lost an once in… who knows how long opportunity to make it 2-1, win their first FIFA Club World Cup, something their city rivals Internacional have already done, and pair it up with the Intercontinental Cup title they won before the competition’s revamp, earlier this century. So, bottom line, I expect Gremio’s players to look more motivated. Will that be enough? It remains to be seen, but in games like this, motive does play a huge role. In the semifinal they beat Pachuca 1-0 in extra time, thanks to an awesome Everton goal in the 95th minute.

Real Madrid vs Gremio: Head to head Stats
Real Madrid and Gremio have never played against each other before.
Real Madrid vs Gremio: Prediction
With all due respect to Real Madrid and their undeniable superiority in this game, quality-wise, I find their 1.19 (this is how much their win pays)… laughable. They are not playing at home against… a Segunda Division Spanish team, in a Spain Cup match, they are playing at a neutral ground against the Copa Libertadores title-holders. 1.19?! Utterly ridiculous.
Real Madrid vs Gremio: Betting Tips
Gremio’s double chance pays 4.60, and to me it feels like the way to go, not only because Real Madrid’s win pays so little, but also because I don’t feel the UEFA Champions League title-holders have that big an advantage (in this specific game) over the Copa Libertadores winners. “Both teams to score” pays 1.85, if you prefer avoiding betting on winners and losers.
