Real Madrid vs Roma
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 19 September 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
It’s been some weeks now since the new season started in Spain, and it still feels… weird seeing Real Madrid without Cristiano Ronaldo. Julen Lopetegui’s team lost the UEFA Super Cup to Atlético Madrid (2-4!, in extra-time), but started La Liga winning their first three games, scoring a total of 10 goals. Athletic Bilbao was the first really strong team they faced in the championship, last weekend, and all they managed was a 1-1 draw, in the Basque Country, equalizing in the second half. They were very… quiet in the transfer market, with reports claiming that Florentino Pérez has prioritized the reconstruction of Santiago Bernabéu, their iconic stadium, even though, works are not expected to start any time soon.
Roma made many new friends last season with their run in the Champions League, mostly with their unbelievable comeback against Barcelona in the quarterfinals. They lost 4-1 away, but somehow won 3-0 at home(!). In the semis, they almost did it again versus Liverpool. They lost 5-2 in England, won 4-2 in Rome, and even just for a minute or two (their fourth goal came in added time), they dreamed of matching the first leg’s score. The new season hasn’t started that well though. They did beat Torino away on their Serie A debut, but that’s their only win thus far. They drew with Atalanta and Chievo at home (conceding a total of five goals!), and lost at AC Milan (conceding in added time).

Real Madrid vs Roma: Head to head Stats
Real Madrid have hosted Roma five times in the past, and interestingly, haven’t won more than twice. Two games went Roma’s way, and one ended in a draw. Total goals, 8-6 for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid vs Roma: Prediction
Real Madrid are considered huge favorites to win the game. Despite Roma’s… miracles in the competition last season, it’s hard to imagine them leave Spain with a point.
Real Madrid vs Roma: Betting Tips
A simple Real Madrid win pays just 1.36. Roma have looked very vulnerable defensively lately, but I expect them to look improved in this game. Still lose, but not… get embarrassed. “Real Madrid and under 3.5 goals” is at 2.75.
