Red Star Belgrade vs Salzburg
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 21 August 2018
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Red Star Belgrade traveled to Slovakia last week to face Spartak Trnava, having drawn 1-1 at home in the first leg. Despite having a disadvantage, I still expected them to qualify, winning the game in 90 minutes, most probably 0-1, without conceding. After all, Red Star needed extra-time to beat Spartak, 1-2, going 1-0 down in the 6th minute, and equalizing right after that (in less than 60 seconds). Red Star have played four games in their championship this season (not last weekend though), but 10 official games altogether, as they started their Champions League qualifiers adventure on July 11, against Spartaks Jurmala (Latvia). In six games against them, Suduva (Lithuania) and Spartak Trnava, they have four wins and two draws, no defeat. Generally, in their 10 official matches the last month and a half, they have eight wins and two draws, having conceded only three goals, two of those playing against Spartak in the 3rd qualifying round.
Red Star’s numbers this season are impressive, but Salzburg have nothing to be… jealous of, no matter if they have played less official games, seven. They are on 12 points out of four matches in their championship (perfect record; they beat Hartberg at home last weekend), they eliminated Shkendija in the third qualifying round of the Champions League beating them twice, and they won in their Cup as well, playing against a lowly opponent. Seven matches, seven wins, having kept a clean sheet in six of those. Even that one goal they conceded, was on their Bundesliga debut, against LASK Linz, when the score was already 3-0 for them.

Red Star Belgrade vs Salzburg: Head to head Stats
Red Star have hosted Salzburg once before, more than 40 years ago. They beat them 1-0 in 1976, in the second round of the UEFA Cup.
Red Star Belgrade vs Salzburg: Prediction
I will be surprised if Red Star manage to eliminate Salzburg, but in the first leg, at home, I feel they have what it takes to at least avoid defeat.
Red Star Belgrade vs Salzburg: Betting Tips
Red Star’s win in “draw no bet” is at 2.25, and their double chance at 1.61. If I left winners and losers aside, “under 2.5 goals”, at 1.72, would be my choice.
