Rijeka vs Aberdeen
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 8 August 2019
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
Igor Biscan, Rijeka’s coach, told reporters a few days ago that last Thursday he was in Scotland, watching Aberdeen beat Chikhura 5-0 in the return leg of their second qualifying round tie. Usually, club officials get in touch with other clubs when they want someone working for them to attend a game, but Biscan chose to travel on his own. He said he was impressed by Aberdeen, how fast their wingers were, how aggressive they looked. After all, he saw the Scots earn a big victory. Rijeka lost the Super Cup in Croatia almost a month ago, to Dinamo Zagreb, but in three matches in their championship ever since, all they’ve enjoyed is victories, victories, victories. Last weekend they beat Slaven Koprivnica 3-1 at home. They are one of the three teams in their championship on nine points from their first three games.
Unlike Rijeka who didn’t have to play in the first two qualifying rounds, Aberdeen had to eliminate RoPS from Finland (beat them twice), and Chikhura from Georgia. They actually drew away from home in the first leg, 1-1, but as previously mentioned, they were awesome at home last week, in the return leg, throwing a party on the pitch (5-0). The championship in Scotland just started, and Aberdeen played their part in producing a memorable 3-2 against Hearts. They took the lead early, conceded twice in the 68th and 76th minute, things got ugly for them, but almost right after that, they equalized from the penalty spot, and a Hearts player was sent off. Ryan Hedges scored the winner in the 85th minute, a game to remember by fans of both teams.

Rijeka vs Aberdeen: Prediction
Rijeka are considered clear favorites to win, but I wouldn’t bet on them. Deep down I see a draw, but my top choice would be Aberdeen’s double chance, so as to minimize the risk. It still pays better than Rijeka’s win.
