River Plate vs Emelec
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 27 April 2018
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo seems to have just one dilemma regarding his first 11; Rafael Borré or Rodrigo Mora. One of the two will join Lucas Pratto in River’s offensive line. According to reports in local media, the hosts will start with Armani, Montiel, Maidana, Pinola, Saracchi (he left behind him a minor injury and is fit to start) Nacho Fernández, Ponzio, Enzo Pérez, Pity Martínez, Pratto and Borré or Mora. River are on five points from three matches, still undefeated. Last week, they beat Emelec in Guayaquil. They are 9th in Argentina’s Superliga after their 3-0 win at Arsenal last weekend, but still some way behind the last team that earn a Copa Libertadores ticket. With just three games left, River’s chances to secure a Libertadores spot for next season look limited. They need to win the Copa Argentina, the Copa Libertadores, or, if they finish third in their group, win the Copa Sudamericana (the last three, if they don’t perform a mini miracle in the three remaining game weeks of the Superliga).
Emelec are… a mess. Coach Alfredo Arias resigned after their 3-1 defeat at Delfín last weekend, but the president, Nassib Neme, didn’t accept his resignation, and the Uruguayan will be on the bench in this game against River. Talking to reporters he said that he could still leave the club, even if they win in Buenos Aires. One player who did not make the trip to Argentina is vastly experienced center-back Jorge Guagua, who, despite the fact that the team are going through a very bad period, was seen drunk and half-naked partying at a bar. There is a video everyone in Ecuador saw, Guagua apologized, and said he is ready to face the consequences of his mistake. Emelec are on just one point from three matches in the group.

River Plate vs Emelec: Head to head Stats
River have hosted Emelec three times in the past. They destroyed them 5-0 in 2001, beat them 2-0 in 2003, and drew 1-1 last season.
River Plate vs Emelec: Prediction
I will be very-very surprised if River don’t pick up all three points.
