River Plate vs Patronato
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 27 January 2019
Kick-off: 23:20 CET
That is some… rough landing for River Plate… After winning the Copa Libertadores, they got embarrassed in the FIFA Club World Cup, losing to Al Ain on penalties, and now that the season restarted in Argentina, they “managed” to lose two games in a row(!), at home(!!). It feels like nothing works for them these days. Plus, in that 1-2 defeat to Unión last week, they were unlucky to see the referee make a serious mistake, giving Unión a penalty, while the foul had happened just outside the box. No VAR in the Superliga, so… Interestingly, coach Marcelo Gallardo decided to rotate his squad for this game, almost 100%. Only four “regulars” have been included in the group, the rest are youngsters, and others who rarely get included in the first 11. River are 12th, on 19 points from 13 matches. They will need to outdo themselves to finish in a Copa Libertadores position (for the 2020 edition).
Patronato finished 2018 sitting at the very bottom of the table, last out of 26 participants, on just 10 points. They have scored 16 goals in 15 matches, which is not fantastic, but still better than numbers you see next to teams that feature in the top 10 of the table. Their main problem has been their defense; they have conceded 27 goals, and have by far the worst record in the league. Mario Sciacqua remains their coach. A total of eight players arrived, and on the other hand, three left, numbers that “say” that their roster in the second half of the season will be deeper than that of the first one.

River Plate vs Patronato: Prediction
River are considered huge favorites to win the game, hosting one of the weakest teams of the league. Be reminded though, the hosts will play mostly with “reserves”.
River Plate vs Patronato: Betting Tips
“Both teams to score”, at 2.25, is my main tip. Combined with “over 2.5 goals”, that goes up to 2.90.
