River Plate vs Union Santa Fe
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 24 January 2019
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
River Plate tried and tried and tried, but simply nothing worked for them on Saturday, when they hosted Defensa y Justicia. “Under 2.5 goals” (1.70), Defensa’s double chance (almost 2.00), the same combined with “under 3.5 goals” (2.40), and also combined with “under 2.5 goals” (2.88), these were my four tips back then, and all came good, as Defensa won 0-1. River conceded from a direct free-kick in the 24th minute, took control of the match right away, missed good (one even fantastic) chances to equalize in the remainder of the first half, but… nothing worked. In the second half, they looked… hopeless, as if they didn’t believe they could turn the situation around. They hardly worried Defensa’s goalkeeper in the second part. Over the weekend, they finalized a deal with Belgrano over the transfer of 30-year-old second striker Matías Suárez. They were and remained 11th in the Superliga table, on 19 points (from 12 matches).
Unión Santa Fe lost their last three Superliga matches in November and December, finishing 2018 sitting 12th in the table, level on points (19) with River. About 10 days ago, they surprised many in Argentina, beating Boca Juniors 2-0 in a friendly match. What was… shocking, was that both goals were scored by 22-year-old Augusto Lotti, a guy who has never scored a goal in Argentina’s top division(!). He has already played in Switzerland (second division), but he’s yet to debut in the Superliga. He spent the last months of 2018 at Unión on loan from Racing Club, but he didn’t make the first team. Unión agreed a loan deal for striker Maxi Cuadra with Racing, another striker, Nicolás Mazzola, arrived from Gimnasia La Plata, and Uruguayan defensive midfielder joined the Santa Fe side coming from Racing (Montevideo). On the other hand, four guys left, namely 24-year-old striker Franco Soldano, who got transferred to Olympiakos, Greece.

River have hosted Unión four times the last seven years; two wins for them, and two draws.
River Plate vs Union Santa Fe: Prediction
Unión are nothing like Defensa y Justicia, and I don’t expect them to avoid defeat at Monumental.
River Plate vs Union Santa Fe: Betting Tips
A simple River win is at just 1.53. Their -1.5 handicap is at 2.65, suiting my hunch they will win by at least two goals. If you find this, “River and over 1.5” pays a decent 2.02.
