River Plate vs Wilstermann
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 22 September 2017
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
A week ago, River Plate were considered favorites to beat Wilstermann in Bolivia, but I backed the hosts of that game to earn at least a draw, their double chance paid 1.50, kind of ok if you wanted something around that to combine in the same ticket with another bet. What came next, was beyond my imagination. River lost 3-0(!), with that third goal in the 82nd minute leaving them with a mountain to climb. Things would be very tough for River even if they had lost 2-0, but 3-0 looks… almost mission impossible. This River can definitely score three goals, but the risks they’ll need to take, will leave them vulnerable at the back. Last weekend they won 3-1 at San Martin San Juan, they have nine points from three matches in Argentina’s Superliga, they look (judging by what they have been telling media the last days) super charged, super determined to… write history, coming back from 3-0 down, the stadium will be absolutely full-full-full, but still… 3-0… It will take River a memorable performance to come back from that.
The question is, will Wilstermann go after scoring a goal, or… not really? They say they will, they say they know a goal will almost certainly guarantee their spot in the semifinals, but… sometimes, things change once the game starts, and you have 10 of your opponents’ 11 players attacking like mad. One thing is for sure, Wilstermann drew 0-0 at Atletico Mineiro in their previous away game in the Copa Libertadores, while they had lost their previous nine matches away from Bolivia, going as far back as in 2004. In 10 Copa Libertadores matches as visitors, they have scored two goals, that’s it, two goals in 10 matches. If they play too passively, too defensively, with… two buses parked in front of their goal, they will suffer, even with a 3-0 advantage from the first leg. If they believe they can score, it can prove a game changer… Last weekend they lost 1-0 at Sport Boys, but they remain leaders in Bolivia’s championship on 17 points from eight matches.

River Plate vs Wilstermann: Head to head Stats
River have hosted Wilstermann twice in the past, in the 70s and the 80s. One game ended in a 2-2 draw, and River won the other one, easily, 3-0.
River Plate vs Wilstermann: Prediction
Believe it or not, I’m backing River Plate not just to win the game (this is kind of self-evident), but to qualify as well(!), scoring as much as needed against this very surprising Wilstermann side.
River Plate vs Wilstermann: Betting Tips
A simple River Plate win pays very little, 1.22. Even River and over 2.5 combined goals is low, at 1.67 betting odds. Make that River and over 3.5 goals, and you have a very good 2.50.
