Sale Sharks vs Bath
Competition: Aviva Premiership Rugby
Date: 06 May 2017
Kick-off: 17:00 CET
Bath know they have only one chance of making the lay-offs, and then it falls out of their hands as they need things to also go their way. It may be a long shot, but Bath need to at least beat Sale, hopefully with a bonus point, to give themselves any shot at all.
Sitting in fifth, Bath will be desperate to break into the play-off zone and into a chance of playing teams in a knock out situation where anything can happen. It means that they need to beat Sale, away from home, and they have to get a bonus point to be absolutely sure of it. Bath are targeting Leicester Tigers who are in fourth, and four points ahead of them. So even if Bath win, they need Leicester to lose away from home to the Warriors, which is unlikely. Bath have every chance of beating Sale, and a good one of making the bonus point, as Sale have not been great this year.
For Sale, they have nothing really left to fight for, they are far and removed from any permutation of a play-off spot as they sit way down in 10th, only the Warriors and Bristol below them. They cannot even get any higher than 10th as in ninth is Newcastle and they are a full eight points clear. More worryingly, they are in danger of dropping down a place should they lose this game and Warriors beat Tigers – which will be a huge boost for Bath. Sitting just four points clear of Worcester, it could see the Warriors equal on points as Sale if all goes to plan and then the Sharks will have to hope their points difference is better.
Sale Sharks vs Bath: Head-to-Head Stats
Sale will be going into this game’s heavily unfavoured for the win after their performance this season, but overall in their historic matches it is feasible to see why Sale could win. In 39 matches the Sharks have a win percentage of 44% with 17 wins while Bath have won just five more games at 22.
Sale Sharks vs Bath: Prediction
Bath will be hunting their last shot at qualifying for the playoffs, and they will be determined to win even if it is away. The Sharks on the other hand would just like to see the end of the season and probably won’t be at their best, which they would need to be to even have a chance of beating Bath.
