Sale Sharks vs Newcastle Falcons
Competition: Aviva Premiership Rugby
Date: 08 September 2017
Kick off: 20:45 CET
The Falcons picked up the win they were expected to, and the Sharks also were defeated much like many expected them to do so – but they both scored more points than were expected over their two different games.
For the Sharks it was a tough first encounter against the Wasps, who are very partial to scoring points of their own. On the road, last year’s finalists were never going to be an easy game, and the fact that the Sharks scored 35 points should be applauded, but it must also be remembered that the Wasps scored 50, and their style of play is exactly to do what they did – score more points than the opposition. For the Sharks though they will take a lot out of being able to piece together some good play and to get a good few points on the board as they prepare to head home and take on a Falcons side that may have won, but will also have a bit of a target on their back in this mini northern derby.
Newcastle took on the Worcester Warriors who are always seemingly in a relegation battle and this season will probably be no different as they struggle to take down some of the smaller and less threatening teams. There is a lot of promise about the Falcons this year as they try and enact the good things that have been going their way – like their game plan which was on display in this 35-8 win at home. However, the Falcons now have tough task in having to get onto the road and head across the north of England to meet Sale in an away game that could be defining as these sides are usually in the same part of the table as the season wears on.

Sale Sharks vs Newcastle Falcons: Head to Head Stats
Sale can boast the historic edge in this fixture as in the last 10 game they have won six games while the Falcons have only managed to get over the line four times with here there also being a draw thrown in. The battles have all been close though as the last six games have all been won by less than eight points.
Sale Sharks vs Newcastle Falcons: Prediction
Historically this game shows that it should be a close one as these teams never run away from each other but what is also interesting is they have both won more games away from home than at home. It could thus be that this should be a Newcastle win simply because they have the advantage of a win already in the bag.
