Sale Sharks vs Saracens
Competition: European Rugby Champions Cup
Date: 18 December 2016
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
In this all English affair it looks like there will only really be one winner as Saracens have been magnificent in their domestic competition as well as in Europe all year, but Sale meanwhile have been very poor in Europe and could go through without winning a game.
Saracens must certainly be one of the favourites for the competition, not only because they are the defending champions, but because they have been playing so well in England and in Europe. They are on to of their pool, with three wins from three, and although they travel to Sale to play the Sharks again, they will feel confident that this will be another notch of the belt in their run to the knock-outs. Saracens have had their toughest game yet – an away fixture to Toulon – so they won’t be fearing much else in the group stages and in fact, they may even rest a few players for this game against the bottom of the pool Sale.
Sale have looked out of their depth in their three games they have played in Europe. They have only scored two tries in their three games and were well and truly humbled when they met the Sarries at home. Effectively, seeing as they do not even have a bonus point, they are well ad truly out of the competition which make you wonder if they will be up for another harsh lesson from the defending champions.
Sale Sharks vs Saracens: Previous encounter
It was quite clearly a one sided affair as Sale only managed a single penalty while Saracens managed to crack the 50 point mark in a game that they ran rampant in. It was a try fest for the home team as Sean Maitland scored two, Marcelo Bosch, Chris Wyles, Jamie George, and substitute Richard Barrington all scored tries.
Sale Sharks vs Saracens: Prediction
The only advantage in favour of Sale this week is that the game is at their home ground, but that will no way be enough to see a total change in fortunes. Saracens will win this one, but probably not as much as they are away and their fire will be a little quelled with the nature of the game not being too important now.
Sale Sharks vs Saracens: Tips
Bet on it to be a Saracens win, but the result will not be as big, and Sale may even get a try or two in this one.
