San Lorenzo vs Junior
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 13 March 2019
Kick-off: 23:15 CET
Fifteen games without a victory, no win since Jorge Almirón took over, a few weeks before December’s break. Things are not going well for San Lorenzo, who lost last weekend to Boca Juniors, 3-0, stuck at the bottom of the table in the Superliga. At least they don’t have to worry about getting relegated, no matter if they are last in this season’s table. In the “promedio” table they are nowhere near the relegation zone, and that’s what counts in Argentina. Last week, they earned a goalless draw in Arequipa, visiting Melgar, not a bad result. Point away from home on their Copa Libertadores group stage debut, that was positive, despite the fact that they had to wait until the 68th minute to threaten Melgar’s goalkeeper, and that happened only thanks to a shot from a distance.
It all went wrong for Junior last week, when they hosted Palmeiras. They conceded first, early, just 11 minutes into the game, missed chances, had Teófilo Gutiérrez sent-off in the 76th minute (stupid reaction, he kicked an opponent while trying to score, a clear sign of how frustrated he was with how the game was going for him and his team), and towards the end they conceded again, just to make matters worse. On Saturday, all they managed against Atlético Bucaramanga at home was a poor goalless draw, failing to leapfrog Millonarios (they had drawn with Atlético Nacional a bit earlier) and climb up first in the table of Colombia’s championship. Obviously, Gutiérrez is unavailable, because of the red card he saw last week, making Junior’s mission at Nuevo Gasómetro even tougher.

San Lorenzo vs Junior: Prediction
San Lorenzo are considered favorites to win, but this is a team that hasn’t won since… ever, so I find it impossible to bet on them.
