San Lorenzo vs River Plate
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 2 September 2018
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
San Lorenzo’s game against Unión in Santa Fe last weekend was one of those that leave both teams with a bittersweet taste. The hosts were… more of a team on the pitch, created (and missed) more chances, but San Lorenzo had their goalkeeper, Nicolás Navarro, on an awesome day. The Boedo side took the lead very early, in the 12th minute, thanks to a Reniero goal, and were leading 0-1 until added time. Then and only then, Unión managed to finally score, leaving the two teams with one point each. Unión were better, so San Lorenzo must be feeling ok with that point, no matter if they got equalized super late. They are on three points from three matches in the Superliga, three draws(!), 2-2 (twice) and 1-1.
River Plate had four consecutive 0-0 draws before hosting Racing Club midweek, in the Copa Libertadores. Their last goalless draw was at home last weekend, versus Argentinos Juniors. “It’s funny”, Lucas Pratto said after that much, talking about their… inability to send the ball in. Funny, in a non-funny way, he meant, obviously irritated by the fact that he and the rest of the team had spent four 90-minute periods without scoring a single goal. Against Racing, they showed their best self, winning 3-0, to qualify for the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals (the first leg was one of the goalless draws). Pratto was the scorer of the first goal, just 11 minutes into the game. Palacios made it 2-0 before halftime, and Borré added the cherry on top late. What made River’s triumph even more… special, was that they played with a lineup that had not been used before, a Gallardo choice out of… necessity, as he had important players missing.

San Lorenzo vs River Plate: Head to head Stats
San Lorenzo have beaten River the last two times they hosted them. Before that, River had three wins in a row as San Lorenzo’s visitors.
San Lorenzo vs River Plate: Prediction
River are considered favorites to win the game. They finally scored, and they are playing against a team that has conceded five goals in three matches in the Superliga thus far. I have my doubts regarding their win, but I do expect them to keep yet another clean sheet. In five matches in August, they didn’t allow a single goal.
San Lorenzo vs River Plate: Betting Tips
River’s clean sheet, at 2.50, is my main tip. Their win is at 2.45, with their double chance down at 1.38.
