San Martin San Juan vs Boca Juniors
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 1 February 2019
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Hernán Crespo, his players, Banfield’s fans, everyone was left absolutely gutted last Friday, at the end of their game against San Martín San Juan. They were by far the better team on the pitch, they should have killed the game off in the first half, even in the second one they ruled and missed chances, but they paid for a ridiculous mistake of their goalkeeper, in the 77th minute. They bounced back, they actually scored again, but the assistant referee raised her flag for offside. The goal was annulled, Banfield had to settle for a single point, not the debut Crespo was hoping for, but… their overall performance was definitely good, excluding their goalkeeper’s.
Just like Banfield, Boca Juniors had to settle for a point last weekend, drawing 1-1 with Newell’s Old Boys in Rosario. The final 1-1 feels rather poor, given that both teams could have scored more than that. Darío Benedetto missed at least two good chances in the first half, but redeemed himself in the 78th minute, scoring a classic striker’s goal. Boca are still 6th in the table, but have two matches in hand, and if they play their cards right, they’ll climb up to the top 4. By the time this game starts, Boca must have signed 29-year-old center-back Lisandro López, on a season-long loan deal with Benfica.

San Martin San Juan vs Boca Juniors: Head to head Stats
Three Boca wins, one draw, and one San Martín victory the last seven years in San Juan, in the last five matches between these two there. The most memorable game of all five though, was the hosts’ mind-blowing triumph in 2013, an insane 6-1(!).
