San Martin Tucuman vs Defensa y Justicia
Competition: Argentina Superliga
Date: 2 February 2019
Kick-off: 01:10 CET
San Martín Tucumán played their part in producing a memorable second half last weekend, visiting Tigre. They went 1-0 down in the 56th minute, equalized right away, went 1-2 up in the 80th minute, but got equalized themselves just before added time. That 2-2 left them with a bittersweet taste; not losing away from home is always positive if you’re a “modest” team, a newly-promoted, but their situation in the “promedio” table is not good, they are second-to-last, and draws alone won’t save them. They need a couple of wins in a row to really boost their chances of avoiding relegation.
Defensa y Justicia hosted San Lorenzo last weekend, they were nowhere to be seen in the first half, they didn’t create a single chance to score in 45 minutes, but things changed a lot after halftime; they ruled on the pitch in the second half, and got rewarded in the 90th minute, when Fernando Márquez scored the only goal of the match. Looking at the bigger picture, the whole 90 minutes, I was left with the impression that draw would have been a more fair result, but… fair or unfair, Defensa reached 36 points, they remained second, three behind leaders Racing Club, and let’s not forget that they are the only undefeated team in the Superliga this season, after 16 matches. Important detail; they are visiting Botafogo in a few days, their first Copa Sudamericana game this season.

I like the hosts’ chances of earning at least one point, despite the fact that Defensa are considered relatively clear favorites to win the match.
San Martin Tucuman vs Defensa y Justicia: Betting Tips
San Martín’s double chance is at 1.70. The same combined with “under 2.5 goals” is at 2.40. Defensa have the best defense in the league, they have conceded just nine goals, as many as Racing, but they haven’t scored that much, only 22 goals, less than 1.5 per game.
