Santa Fe vs Flamengo
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 26 April 2018
Kick-off: 02:45 CET
There are 32 teams competing in the Copa Libertadores group stage, and Santa Fe are the only ones to have drawn in all three matches thus far. Their 1-1 at home to Emelec was followed by a goalless draw at River Plate and a 1-1 in Rio de Janeiro last week, against Flamengo. Not losing is great, but given that both Flamengo and River are on five points, Santa Fe are obliged to set the bar higher, and win this game. Actually, they had five draws in a row before hosting Leones on Sunday. They were desperate to win, so as to stay alive in the fight for a top 8 finish in Colombia’s championship, and they did win, 2-1, coming from behind. They are 10th, they have three games left there, and just… average chances of finishing in the top 8, so as to fight for the title in the final stages. According to reports in local media, Santa Fe will start the game with Zapata, Gil, Tesillo, López, Arboleda, Gordillo, Perlaza, Vargas, Pajoy, Morelo and Plata.
Flamengo may be leading in their Libertadores group and be on four points from two games in their championship in Brazil, having won last weekend, but… incredible as this may look, there was a group of fans who went to the airport for the squad’s departure to Colombia, to “complain” about the lack of guts(!), and to verbally abuse the president, who, actually, had to be escorted by police. Flamengo’s fans are well-known for being super demanding, asking for more, more, more, even when the team’s results are actually good. Attacking midfielder Diego missed the game against América Mineiro last weekend, he was injured, flew to Colombia with the squad, trained well, and is expected to start. Éverton Ribeiro is a different case. He has… annoyed Flamengo’s fans with his inconsistency this season, and his presence in the first 11 is doubtful. Center-back Rhodolfo is out, injured. According to reports in Brazil, Fla will start the game with Diego Alves, Rodinei, Juan, Réver, René, Gustavo Cuéllar, Lucas Paquetá, Diego (or Willian Arao), Vinicius Júnior, Everton Ribeiro (or Guevanio), and Henrique Dourado.
