Santa Fe vs Junior
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 9 November 2018
Kick-off: 01:45 CET
Santa Fe’s coach, Guillermo Sanguinetti, doesn’t have four injured players at his disposal, regular goalkeeper Leandro Castellanos, left-back Juan David Valencia, center-back José Moya and left winger Hernán Burbano. Center-forward Carmelo Valencia is also unavailable, as he’s not included in Santa Fe’s CONMEBOL list for the Copa Sudamericana. They are expected to start with Zapata, Arboleda, López, Henao, Hernández, Guastavino, Perlaza, Gordillo, Seijas, Morelo and Rodríguez. The Bogotá side won 1-2 at Deportivo Cali last weekend, in the return leg of their 1-1 draw at home. They scored twice in about 100 seconds, in the 16th and the 17th minute, at that point Deportivo Cali had to score twice to eliminate Santa Fe, and all they managed was to shorten the gap in the 73rd minute. Last weekend they beat Deportes Tolima 3-0 at home, their third win in a row, Colombia championship and Copa Sudamericana combined. They are 9th in the table of their championship, with just one game left. To play in the final stages, they need to finish in the top-8. They must beat Millonarios on Sunday, so as to reach 31 points, and hope that either Rionegro or Atlético Nacional, on 29 points each, won’t win their game.
Junior as well won their last championship match (despite playing with several reserves), 0-3 at Alianza Petrolera, but unlike Santa Fe, they already know they will be in the final stages. They are sixth in the table, on 32 points. Last week they got destroyed by Defensa y Justicia in Avellaneda (that’s where the game was held, at Independiente’s stadium), they lost 3-1, saw the referee save them in the first half annulling a Defensa goal after using the VAR system (his decision was… debatable, to write the least), generally were lucky to concede “only” three goals, but scored once after going 3-0 down, and that away goal pushed them through to the semifinals, as they had won 2-0 at home. According to reports, coach Julio Comesaña will have Viera, Piedrahita, Ávila, Pérez, Fuentes, Cantillo, Pico, Díaz, Hernández, Barrera and Gutiérrez in the starting lineup.

Santa Fe vs Junior: Head to head Stats
Wow… The last game between these two in Bogotá, ended in a draw. Before that, Santa Fe had 12(!) wins in a row at home over Junior, between October 2010 and May 2017.
Santa Fe vs Junior: Prediction
Santa Fe have an incredible record at home against Junior. Given that this is the first of two legs, I expect the hosts to look more motivated, more… energetic, and find the way to win the game, most probably by a single goal.
Santa Fe vs Junior: Betting Tips
Santa Fe’s win is at 2.10. I’m staying with that, avoiding risking further with number of goals.
