Santos vs Gremio
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 7 September 2018
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
What a night for Gabigol last Saturday… Santos visited Vasco da Gama, more than 30,000 Vasco fans went to Maracana to see their team play there as hosts for the first time in months, but… it was a Santos player who turned out to be the brightest star of the night. Gabriel Barbosa scored all three goals for Cuca’s team, and after the game he thanked his coach, saying that he has helped him recover his self-confidence. Actually, Gabigol has scored Santos’ half goals ever since Cuca took charge. Santos’ superiority was clear, and, most of all, they were… lethal in their finishes, or, to be more exact in his finishes, as Barbosa scored all three goals. Uruguayan midfielder Carlos Sánchez is out, on duty with his national team. Santos are in the middle of the table, on 27 points from 21 matches.
Gremio opened the scoring last weekend versus Botafogo from the penalty spot, early, in the 12th minute, so we’ll never know what would have happened if they hadn’t scored that early and in that way, but all in all, no one can say that they didn’t deserve the three points. Their dominance was resounding, they finished the game at 4-0 (with another penalty at the end), on a very heavy pitch, which made even their coach complain. It was raining hard during parts of the match, and several water holes were created, slowing the game down. Left-back Cortez received his third yellow card and is out of this match. Gremio were the only top-4 team to win last weekend, so they shortened the gap to leaders Sao Paulo to six points, moving closer to Internacional and Gremio as well.

Santos vs Gremio: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Santos, one for Gremio, and two draws, in the last five games between these two with Santos as hosts.
Santos vs Gremio: Prediction
Both teams just played awesome games. I don’t see a favorite. I feel draw is the most probable result.
Santos vs Gremio: Betting Tips
Gremio’s double chance is at 1.66, with draw alone at 2.90. Santos have improved a lot offensively under Cuca, but they are facing the best defense in the league, so I won’t be surprised if they fail to score.
