Santos vs Palmeiras
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 20 July 2018
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
There is no doubt Santos are one of the teams that underperformed in the first third of the season, picking up just 13 points from 11 matches (they have one in hand, against Vasco da Gama). They are no higher than 15th in the table, having disappointed in several of their games. In two friendly games they played in Mexico earlier this month, they failed to score. Gabigol was dealing with some injury problem and was one of the players who didn’t travel to Mexico. Four of those who did, returned to Brazil with stomach problems, having suffered a mild food poisoning. Central defender David Braz is the only one still suffering from symptoms, and could miss this game. Santos signed Costa Rican midfielder Bryan Ruiz, a really impressive move, but he’s not yet available to play. Léo Cittadini is also out – most probably – as he is about to get transferred to Benfica, and obviously, an injury is the last thing all sides involved want right now.
Palmeiras have four players missing because of cards. Jailson, Dudu, Luan and Moisés are all unavailable. Roger Machado is expected to start the game with Marcos Rocha, Antônio Carlos, Edu Dracena, Diogo Barbosa, Felipe Melo, Bruno Henrique, Scarpa, Lucas Lima, Hyoran and Willian. Palmeiras are sitting 6th in the table, on 19 points from 12 matches. Only Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro have scored more goals than them thus far. Away from home their results have been… perfectly balanced, with two wins, two defeats, and two draws. Palmeiras are one of those teams that are still active in three competitions, not just the championship. They will be facing Bahia in the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals, and Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño in the Copa Libertadores round of 16.

Santos vs Palmeiras: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Santos, two for Palmeiras as well, and a draw, in the last five games between these two with Santos as hosts.
Santos vs Palmeiras: Prediction
Do keep in mind, the game is held at Pacaembu, Sao Paulo, very close actually to Palmeiras’ home. Santos use to do that (“move” to Pacaembu) when they know for sure they will be able to sell way more tickets than at their own – but small – Vila Belmiro. All things considered, I’m backing Palmeiras to earn at least a draw.
Santos vs Palmeiras: Betting Tips
Palmeiras’ win is at 1.80, with their double chance down at 1.42. Deep down, leaving some reservations aside, I would bet on their win without the safety net of “draw no bet”. At 2.60, I feel the risk is worth it.
