Santos vs Real Garcilaso
Competition: Copa Libertadores
Date: 25 May 2018
Kick-off: 00:15 CET
Santos are the only team in the group to have already qualified. Both Estudiantes and Real Garcilaso are four points behind them, so no matter what happens on the last day of the group stage, Santos will be in the next round. Second-placed Nacional (Montevideo) are one point behind them, so the first spot in the group table is not secured yet. On Sunday they lost 1-0 at Sao Paulo, and they are now 15th(!) in Brazil’s Série A, but with a game in hand. Interestingly, despite having qualified early for the last 16 of the Copa Libertadores, Santos’ coach Jair Ventura admitted that he doesn’t feel 100% safe, knowing that whenever there are many rumors regarding sacking a coach, there is some truth behind them. For the time being, he seems set to stay, but these next weeks, until the World Cup finals break, will decide his future at the club.
Mathematically, Real Garcilaso can still finish second. Key word, “mathematically”, as they need to beat Santos by… half a dozen goals, and even then, they would depend on the result of the game between Estudiantes and Nacional. Finishing third is a more realistic target. Still very difficult, they need at least a point in Vila Belmiro, and Estudiantes to lose at home to Nacional (unless Real Garcilaso win, in which case even a draw of Estudiantes would push the Peruvians third). On Friday they drew 1-1 at Sport Huancayo, their sixth game in a row without a victory. More alarming facts for them? They have scored just two goals in their last five games, and have won just one of their 10 official matches away from home in 2018.

Santos have never hosted Real Garcilaso before.
Santos vs Real Garcilaso: Prediction
Up until 24 hours before kick-off, Santos had sold just over 3,000 tickets for this game. It gives you an idea how small the interest of Santos’ fans is for this match, a few days after losing to Sao Paulo. If they were hosting some other team, I would be willing to bet against them. Real Garcilaso though, give me almost no reason to believe they will avoid defeat at Vila Belmiro.
Santos vs Real Garcilaso: Betting Tips
A simple Santos win pays just 1.12. Away from home, Real Garcilaso have zero points, and 0-7 goals(!). I’m going with “over 3.5”, at 2.20, or 2.25, if combined (it feels obvious) with Santos’ victory.
