Sao Paulo vs Parana
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 17 April 2018
Kick-off: 01:00 CET
Sao Paulo seem to be starting the new Série A season scoring an… own goal. The day the club announced they were starting selling the tickets of this match, they also announced that the price of the tickets of one specific sector was going up, something that annoyed, irritated, if not enraged part of their fans. There are those who claim the club need more money to be more competitive, but the majority of the fans seem to believe that the club’s choice is a “punishment” for them. Midweek, Sao Paulo drew 0-0 at Rosario Central (Copa Sudamericana first round first leg), despite playing with 10 men for more than half the game. They have another big match coming up midweek, at home, against Atlético Paranaense. It’s a Copa do Brasil game, return leg, with the first one having ended in a 2-1 Atlético win.
Paraná are back to the top division after 10 whole years, but the first four months of 2018 didn’t go that-that well for them. They failed big in the first half of their State championship, did much-much better in the second, but still, stayed without a title. They even got eliminated from the Copa do Brasil, very early. Rogério Micale took charge late February. Attacking midfielder Carlos Eduardo is their main man, a guy who used to be considered a future megastar in Brazil, but serious injuries kept him back. Still, at Paraná, he is… God. Goalkeeper Richard is another reference at the team, as well as youngster Johnny Lucas, an 18-year-old who has the potential to… make everyone in Brazil talk about him in a couple of years. Paraná haven’t played an official game since March 25.

Sao Paulo vs Parana: Head to head Stats
Sao Paulo haven’t hosted Paraná since 2007. Back then, they destroyed them 6-0. A year earlier, they had beaten them 3-2.
Sao Paulo vs Parana: Prediction
Sao Paulo are considered huge favourites to win, but debuts in a competition are… perfect for surprises, Sao Paulo just played a very demanding game, and have an equally important one coming up. Plus, Paraná were really good in the second half of the season in their State championship. All things considered, I’m taking a big risk, tipping the visitors to leave Morumbi undefeated.
Sao Paulo vs Parana: Betting Tips
Paraná’s double chance pays a massive 3.20. Obviously, draw feels (and is) more probable than a Paraná win, but even 3.20 is great, I reckon, more than good enough to avoid taking an even bigger risk. “Under 2.5 goals” pays 1.90, and feels very probable to me.
