Sao Paulo vs Santos
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 10 August 2019
Kick-off: 22:00 CET
In case you missed episodes, Sao Paulo signed Dani Alves(!) a week ago, and right after that, they signed Juanfran(!) as well. Both Brazil’s captain in the recent Copa América and Atlético Madrid’s emblematic right-back are well over 30, but Sao Paulo have history with famous players who joined them in the latter stages of their career, and still produced marvelous results for/with the team/club. Two weeks ago, in their last game (they didn’t play last weekend), Reinaldo scored twice against Fluminense at Maracana, with his second goal, the winner, coming from the penalty spot in added time. Cuca is expected to have Tiago Volpi, Igor Vinícius, Bruno Alves, Arboleda, Reinaldo, Luan, Tchê Tchê, Hernanes, Antony, Pato and Raniel in the starting lineup. Pablo, Liziero and Joao Rojas are injured, while Gonzalo Carneiro has been suspended since April, after he failed an anti-doping test. Sao Paulo are sixth in the table, three points behind Flamengo and Atlético Mineiro (third and fourth respectively), but with a game in hand.
When the championship in Brazil restarted, after the Copa América break, Santos were five points behind then leaders Palmeiras. Four games down the road, they are four points ahead of them(!), being the only team to have won all their matches after the break. Last weekend they destroyed Goiás at home, a resounding 6-1. Jorge Sampaoli has practically all his players available. His only real “headache” has to do with who among the team’s foreigners will stay out. In the last two games, the guy who paid the price for Santos having probably too many foreigners in their roster, was Peruvian Christian Cueva. Chances are, he will leave the club, as soon as a decent offer arrives. Everson, Victor Ferraz (or Alison), Lucas Veríssimo, Felipe Aguilar, Gustavo Henrique, Jorge, Diego Pituca, Carlos Sánchez, Derlis González, Eduardo Sasha and Soteldo, these should start for the Serie A leaders.

Sao Paulo vs Santos: Prediction
Super-super interesting game… Sao Paulo are given a slight advantage to win, but I wouldn’t bet on that. I prefer to focus on goals.
