Saracens vs Newcastle Falcons
Competition: Aviva Premiership Rugby
Date: 24 December 2016
Kick-off: 14:30 CET
Saracens continue their mighty march both in Europe and in England, and they won’t be fearing a Falcons side that are scrapping it out mid table to try and break away from the chasing pack.
Saracens are fresh off a double victory, home and away, against fellow English side Sale Sharks in the European Cup. Their form has been impeccable as they managed to absolutely hammer Sale at home 50-3 before taking it a little bit lighter on them in the second leg. At home, they still occupy top of the table, but do have some close contenders in the form of Wasps, who are only a point behind, and Bath who are three back. It has been the ruthless nature of the Saracens defence which has lead to them being an attacking threat as well as they have picked up four try-scoring bonus points in their 10 games – as well as two bonus points in their two losses this season.
For Falcons, their battle is somewhat different as they are right in the middle of the table in seventh, but they are surrounded by Gloucester below them, with the same about of points on 23, and Harlequins above them, also on 23. So Falcons know that they need to pick up point to try and break away from this pack and push up the log, but against Saracens, at home, even a bonus point will be hard to come by. By the Falcons standards, this has been a pretty decent start to the season and they will want to be at least competitive against the league leaders.
Saracens vs Newcastle Falcons: Head-to-Head Stats
Saracens are a team cruising this season, but they also have pedigree throughout history, and in this encounter especially as the Falcons have only recorded 12 wins in 36 meetings with two draws as the Saracens take the honours with 23 wins.
Saracens vs Newcastle Falcons: Prediction
It is safe to say that this will be a win for the Sarries. They have been upstaged twice, but those were odd circumstances and after such impressive performances in Europe, you can’t see them slipping up, especially to a team like the Falcons who are far more suited to the mid table. Saracens have been especially deadly at home, and they could run in quite a few tries against a team that has shipped quite a few in their defence this season.
Saracens vs Newcastle Falcons: Tips
Newcastle concede an average of 24 points a game, and Saracens average 26 points scored a game, so it is probably a good bet to say there will be points in this game, as Saracens can hit 35+ easily.
