Saracens vs Scarlets
Competition: European Rugby Champions Cup
Date: 22 October 2016
Kick-off: 18:30 CET
Saracens seem to be doing all in their power to prove that their loss against Harlequins was a momentary slip after defeating table topping Wasps in the Premiership, as well as toppling the mighty Toulon, at home, in the Champions League.
Saracens win at the Stade Felix Mayol was a fine moment for the London powerhouse, albeit against a Toulon side that are far from their best. They fought hard through the game, and withstood a late onslaught, but their clinical nature and winning culture is clearly paying dividends. With a forward pack boasting the muscle of Billy Vunipola, Maro Itoje and Schalk Burger allowing the likes of Sean Maitland and Marcelo Bosch to run riot, they will be a tough team to crack.
Scarlet have already bettered their last season showing where they failed to win a single match in six games, their 28-11 victory against Sale one to savour. The Scarlets are actually a team crammed full of international talent, and many think this is their year to at least cause a bit of an upset. Liam William, DTH van der Merwe, Gareth Davis, Ken Owens and Jake Ball are all grizzled tst players and have the experience to win games.
Saracens vs Scarlets: European Cup Barometer
Saracens barometer in general is at an all time high, their recent loss to Harlequins a real oddity over almost a season and a half. In Europe, they are the reigning champions, and have shown their quality by brushing a side Toulon, one of the stars of this tournament.
Scarlets, it has to be said, are also looking better than their last season. But that only means they have actually won a game, unlike last year. It was against Sale, who can’t be considered world beaters, but Saracens certainly can.
Saracens vs Scarlets: Prediction
Saracens are almost unbeatable as it stands – big teams, little teams, European teams, the lot; it doesn’t matter to the Londoners. Welcoming Scarlets to their home ground won’t strike fear into them as they simply go about their processes and claim another notch on their belt.
Saracens vs Scarlets: Tips
Saracens have been accused of being boring before, but that really is a misconception. They know how to score some exciting tries, and by the bucket load of need be. Scarlets have also got many free scoring players so expect them both to nab a few tries in a game that will have over 50 points in it.
