SC Bern vs Fribourg-Gotteron
Competition: Swiss NLA
Date: 15th November 2016
Kick-off: 19:45 CET
Two CHL Quarter-Finalists with very different NLA records clash tonight in Bern, as 2 plays 11 in the standings.
Bern put on a great performance in Jyvaskyla to eliminate JYP and reach the CHL’s Last 8 during the past week, and have one of the best recent records in both the NLA and European hockey in general. With eight straight NLA wins, and only one loss in their last 11 league games overall, Bern have streamed up the standings to be hot on the heals of ZSC Lions. The Bears are one point off top spot with two games in hand thanks to their recent run, making up for an early season where they won only five from 10. It’s a month to the day that Bern lost their last game. Season record: 12-2-2-4.
Fribourg’s qualification to the CHL Quarter-Finals over KalPa was an eye-opener considering their really poor domestic form. Sitting just one place above last, they have 23 points from 20 games and a 5-3-2-10 record overall. The Dragons have won one of their last three games in the NLA, over Kloten, but have however won five of their last eight in the league (one in OT). They’re largely in such a low place due to a terrible start which saw them win only two of their opening 10 matches.
Bern have the best home record in the whole of the NLA, boasting just one regulation loss in 10 games. Eight wins and a 1-point loss have given them 25 points from 10 games, while they have won seven straight at home in the NLA – not losing since 23 September on their own ice. The Bears at home average 3,6 goals a game, while giving up less than two, so it’s easy to see why they’ve been so dominant.
Fribourg’s road form has seen them win 3/10, losing six in regulation as well to give them only 10 points from as many matches. Where they struggle is that they’re outscored on average by a goal a game – scoring 1,9 a game but conceding 2,9. They have however won 3/4 in their last road matches.

It’s hard to look past Bern, given how impressive they have been of late. Gotteron have been decent on the road too, but just concede too many goals – home win.
