Scarlets vs Saracens
Competition: European Champions Cup Rugby
Date: 15 January 2017
Kick-off: 14:00 CET
Although Saracens may have given up top spot in the Premiership, they are still a massive force to be reckoned with in both Europe and England, they have the advantage heading into the last two rounds in Pool 3. Scarlets may not be able to stop them topping the group, but they can definitely play themselves ahead of the mighty Toulon.
Scarlets are currently in third, and a full 10 points behind Saracens who are first, but, ahead of them is Toulon who are only two points ahead of the eight points the Welsh side have accumulated. While they have to host the double defending champions, they will know the importance of this game as Toulon should beat Sale at home, so to stay in contention for a qualification spot, they need this win at home. Scarlets have won two and lost two, but that pales in comparison to Saracen’s results.
The Saracens are undefeated in Pool 3, and their toughest game was their first one away from home against Toulon which they won and put down a massive marker. They have lost only three games all season in Europe and in England and are carrying their superb form from last season through which is a terrifying through for the Welsh side. A fantastic outfit, Saracens have not been bested by many in terms of attack or defence and it does not feel like Scarlets will have enough in their tank to be the team to slow the London-based side.
Scarlets vs Saracens: Previous encounter
It was a high scoring game when these two first met in England as the Saracens ran out 44-26 winners thanks in part to a faultless kicking display from Owen Farrell, as well as tries from Michael Rhodes, Mako Vunipola, Chris Wyles, Nick Tompkins and Marcelo Bosch.
Scarlets vs Saracens: Prediction
Scarlets have been competitive in their European display, and are definitely still in the race to qualify – but probably in second spot in the group. Saracens are almost in another group altogether, there are few teams that would come up against Saracens as favourites, or even odd-even to beat them, and Scarlets are well off that mark even at home.
Scarlets vs Saracens: Tips
Owen Farrell is in superb kicking form, so a good bet would be on him to kick over 80% of his kicks as he does not seem to be able to miss at the moment for club and country.
