Schalke vs Stuttgart
Competition: Germany Bundesliga
Date: 18 May 2019
Kick-off: 15:30 CET
Ever since Huub Stevens took charge, the target was clear, host Stuttgart on the last day of the season having already secured the 15th – at least – spot in the table. They did it. Their most memorable afternoon was the one in Dortmund, when they came from behind to beat Borussia 2-4(!). They have now gone undefeated in three matches, including a valiant 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen last weekend. Depending on how results go this weekend, they could finish up to 13th, but the most important of all for them is that they can’t drop 16th. Stevens is expected to have Nübel, Stambouli, Sane, Nastasic, Mascarell, Caligiuri, Serdar, McKennie, Oczipka, Burgstaller and Embolo in the starting lineup. Bentaleb and Mendyl have been out for some time now, not taken into consideration by their coach and the club in general. Schöpf and Uth are injured. The day before the game, Fährmann, Konoplyanka and Skrzybski were doubtful.
Stuttgart must already be thinking about their upcoming playoff matches against either Paderborn or Union Berlin. Last weekend they beat Wolfsburg 3-0 at home, their second victory in their last three matches, both at home. Interim coach Nico Willig is expected to have Zieler, Pavard, Kabak, Kempf, Insua, Castro, Gentner, Akolo, Didavi, Gonzalez and Donis in the starting lineup. Four guys are out, suspended Ascacibar, injured Beck and Zuber, as well as Maffeo, who has been… set aside for some time now. The day before the game, Thommy was doubtful. Stuttgart will finish 16th regardless of what happens this weekend.

Three wins for Schalke, one for Stuttgart, and a draw, in the last five games between these two in Gelsenkirchen.
Schalke vs Stuttgart: Prediction
No pressure, for any of the two. Stuttgart have an extra motive to avoid risking injuries, they will need all their players in the playoffs, but other than that, no pressure, as nothing is really at stake in this match, which makes me expect goals.
