Scotland U20 v Italy U20
Competition: World Rugby Under 20 Championship
Date: 08 June 2017
Kick-off: 11:00 CET
With only one game left in the group stages to go, there is a lot to play for for both of Italy and Scotland, who have managed to get onto the same amount of points after each taking wins from Ireland. Whichever team wins this match will put themselves in for a shot at the finals.
It is not as simple as winning however for whether Italy or Ireland, they need to be able to work their way into the top four of the competition, and that means also looking for a few other teams to fail along the way. Scotland started the competition brightly when they beat Ireland in a hard fought game in the second encounter, and they showed their class at the start of their opening game against New Zealand, despite losing that one, and a bit of their way, towards the end of the game. Scotland have five points from a win and a bonus point, meaning that the most they can get is up to 10, however, England and New Zealand are already on 10 with a game in hand, while Australia has nine and South Africa seven, also still to play their last games.
The competition for those final four spots is intense, and for Italy, they would not have been given much hope coming into the tournament, but after also beating Ireland, and getting a bonus point along the way – despite a tough loss to the New Zealanders, they will hold hope they can sneak in. First task for them is to obviously beat Scotland, and even more so, hope to get a bonus point, for even though the Top four teams as it stand are comfortable favourites, Argentina and France can also sneak in ahead of the Scots as well as the Italians.
Scotland U20 v Italy U20: Tournament performance
Scotland opened things up with a 40-22 loss against New Zealand, but they were hardly out played, except perhaps towards the end. They then went on to beat Ireland by a tight four point margin.
Italy started with a win of their on, an unexpected 22-21 victory against the Irish, but when they faced New Zealand they were well beaten 68-26
Scotland U-20 v Italy U-20: Prediction
Scotland, much like their senior side, have shown a lot of promise, but have also made winning look hard. The game against the Kiwi’s was a good showing for about half of the time, with the latter part of that match disintegrating to an easy romp for the opposition. Italy deserve praise, but they have not looked as good as the Scots and will fall away from this match.
Scotland U20 v Italy U20: Tips
It won’t be a huge win for either side, but the Scots will take it, probably just with a four-point win and thus put themselves out of a chance for the finals.
