Scotland vs Wales
Competition: Six Nations
Date: 25 February 2016
Kick-off: 15:25 CET
This game is evenly poised for these two sides as both Scotland and Wales have an equal chance on paper of winning this match. The Scots have put on some brave performances while Wales have not really kicked out of first gear. It will be a telling match in both of these sides’ efforts in the competition.
Scotland come into this match with one sparkling performance against Ireland behind them, where they beat a strong side 27-22 in the first major upset of the competition right from the first match. The Scots showed some great attacking intent, but also some steadfast defensive work to win that game as it ebbed and flowed each way. They then went down in another close encounter this time away to France, with the French side really just out muscling the lighter, more mobile Scots. Much would have been learnt in that encounter as they prepare for a Welsh side that is in a similar position to them in terms of the log.
Wales are also on five points, like Scotland in the log, but they sit in third compared to fifth thanks to points difference. The Welsh side won their first clash with Italy 33-7 in the end, and made it look relatively comfortable in the end, but they were woeful in the first half as they trailed the weak Italian side. From there, Wales upped their game at home, against a major foe in England, losing it right at the depth as they kept the record braking side at bay for 75 minutes. A poor kick and a counter attack sinking their hopes of a famous win. Wales will be very wary of Scotland at home, but they will need to shine more than ever to get the win.
Scotland vs Wales: Head-to-Head Stats
A fixture full of history, that stretches back 121 games all the way to 1883. In those encounters though it is Wales who have had the better of things winning 70 times to Scotland’s 28 wins and three draws. Their last nine encounters have also all belonged to Wales.
Scotland vs Wales: Prediction
A lot of things will be favouring the Welsh, they are a star-studded team, and they showed they can dominate a team as good as England in their last game, but the biggest thing against them is that they have to travel to Murrayfield. The Scots are a passionate bunch and at home they will up their game. With their exciting backline expect them to have at least two counter attacking tries, and probably enough to win the entire game.
Scotland vs Wales: Tips
Scotland rely heavily on their backs for the magic, so expect those key men to score the tries, especially someone like Stuart Hogg.
