Senegal vs Algeria
Competition: Africa Cup of Nations
Date: 19 July 2019
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
Senegal’s coach, Aliou Cissé, has all his players healthy, but he can’t count on Napoli’s centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly, as he is suspended. Schalke’s Salif Sané is expected to take his place in the starting lineup. The other 10 should be Gomis, Gassama, Kouyate, Sabaly, Saivet, Ndiaye, Gueye, Sarr, Niang and Mane. Senegal eliminated Tunisia in the semifinal, beating them 1-0 in extra time. “Under 1.5” (2.45), and “under 2.5 goals” combined with Senegal’s double chance (1.85) were the two tips here back then. Deep down I did expect Senegal to qualify, but for some reason I didn’t completely trust them to get the job done in 90 minutes (and indeed, they needed extra time). Senegal have never won the AFCON title. In 2002 they reached the final, but lost. On a side note, I’m in disbelief reading that several “football legends” of the country are still criticizing Aliou Cissé, despite the fact that under his command the team reached their first AFCON final in 17 years, not to mention that they appeared in the World Cup finals last year in Russia, for the first time in 16 years. Under Cissé, Senegal have won 28 matches, drawn in 12, and lost just five(!), but still, there are people in Senegal who find things to criticize Cissé about… (picture me shaking my head in disbelief)
Fun fact: Cissé was born in Champigny-sur-Marne, Île-de-France (super close to Paris), on March 24, 1976. Djamel Belmadi, Algeria’s coach? Champigny-sur-Marne(!), 1976(!!), March(!!!) 25… Incredible… Belmadi was born a day later than Cissé, same place, and here they are now, more than 40 years later, eager to make history with their national teams. Unlike Cissé, Belmadi had all his players at his disposal. He is expected to have M’bolhi, Zeffane, Mandi, Benlamri, Bensebaini, Guedioura, Bennacer, Feghouli, Mahrez, Bounedjah and Belaili in the starting lineup. In the semifinal they beat Nigeria 2-1, a game that will mostly be remembered for Riyad Mahrez’s masterpiece (direct free-kick) deep into added time. Algeria’s qualification (1.75), and their win combined with “under 3.5 goals” (2.90) were the two tips here back then. Be reminded, Algeria have already beaten Senegal in this tournament, 1-0, in the group stage.

Senegal vs Algeria: Head to head Stats
Algeria have an awesome record against Senegal; 11 wins, just four defeats, and five draws. Total goals, 29-16 for Algeria.
Senegal vs Algeria: Prediction
Senegal are considered super slight favorites to win, but in my mind, there is no doubt that right now, Algeria are a better team. They have had a better tournament than Senegal, Mahrez looks hot, and I expect them to lift the trophy, even if they need extra time.
Senegal vs Algeria: Betting Tips
My main tip is “Algeria to lift the trophy”, at 1.95. Their win in “draw no bet” pays 1.91. Last, their double chance combined with “over 1.5” is at 2.40.
