Sevilla vs Leicester City
Competition: UEFA Champions League
Date: 22 February 2017
Kick-off: 20:45 CET
A fascinating study of football continues as Leicester face off in the knock-out stages of the Champions League, but back home they are fighting back relegation and potentially being the first team to go from Champs to chumps by falling out of the Premier League. Against Sevilla they have not got the toughest draw, but they still have not scored in the Premier League this year.
To be fair, Leicester managed to stay alive in the FA Cup with a replay against Derby, only to lose to Millwall in the next round. Leicester have been playing the cup competitions with some reckless abandon, surprising at how far they get, and how much better they look, than in their domestic competition. They topped their group as well in the Champions League to earn a knock out game against a team that came second, so after their four wins, one draw and a loss in Group G, they will still feel confident, but they had by far the easiest group of the entire competition.
Sevilla on the other hand had a much tougher go at things at they had to try and keep up with the Italian powerhouse of Juventus and then still stave off the advancing attacks of Lyon from France below the. In the end it was an accomplished performance from the Spanish side who managed to win three, draw two and lose just the one game that separated them from topping the group ahead of Juve. Sevilla will also be cautiously licking their lips knowing how badly Leicester have fallen since they started this competition, but at the same time they will be aware that if any team can spring a surprise, it is the Foxes.
Sevilla vs Leicester City: Group stage form
Sevilla’s one loss to eventual group toppers Juve, at home of all places 3-1, was what separated them from what would have been a good effort in the group, but to come second was still a good performance even if they did not score more than one goal in a game.
Leicester kept surprising in their group as they sewed it up with a game still in hand and let Porto run riot 5-0 in their last dead-rubber match. Other than that they won the key games and drew where needed.
Sevilla vs Leicester City: Prediction
It is always so hard to take a stab at predicting when Leicester are involved for they could upset any team in a cup competition if they felt up to it. However, logic dictates that Leicester have not scored a goal, nevermind won a game, in their domestic competition this year and are unlikely to surprise away from home. Sevilla should get a few goals on their side.
Sevilla vs Leicester City: Tips
If Leicester play to their form, their defence has been woeful, so bet on Sevilla to walk away with a big margin going into the second leg. As much as three goals.
