Shakhtyor vs Torino
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 15 August 2019
Kick-off: 19:00 CET
You didn’t need to be a football expert to notice that the difference between Shakhtyor and Torino last week in the first leg was chaotic. Less than two minutes into the game, Shakhtyor conceded the first goal, and four more followed. They tried their best, they finished the game on eight attempts, but just one on target, while Torino had 23 and 11 respectively. Shakhtyor had looked pretty solid defensively for weeks, but obviously, none of the teams they had faced recently had anything to do with Torino. On Monday, they bounced back, destroying Neman Grodno 6-0 at home. It was important, because their Europa League season may be coming to an early end, but in their championship, in Belarus, they still have the chance to do something great; they may be third in the table, eight points behind leaders Dinamo Brest, but they also have two games in hand.
I get it how coaches may be… perfectionists, and never allow their players to drop their guard, but even so, it does feel… “weird”, reading that the coach of a team that won a game 5-0, a game in an international competition, said he was left “unsatisfied”. Walter Mazzarri pointed out that his players made a series of unacceptable mistakes, sort of overlooking the fact that they still won 5-0, and secured their presence in the Europa League playoffs. Mazzarri’s point was that if the same mistakes had been made against a much stronger team, Torino would have been made to pay for them, but still, 5-0, that’s a resounding victory, and Granata’s players maybe should have been cut some slack.

Shakhtyor vs Torino: Prediction
In the previous round, against Debrecen, Torino scored more (four goals) in the return leg, on the road, than at home (three), in the first leg, looking very motivated. I doubt they can repeat last week’s five goals, but still, we should see at least three.
