Sol de America vs Guarani
Competition: Paraguay Clausura
Date: 6 November 2018
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
Last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Independiente de Campo Grande left Sol de América with a bittersweet taste. They took the lead, went 2-1 down, salvaged a point, stayed undefeated, but their target is to reach fourth-placed Nacional, and that draw wasn’t the result they were after at Ricardo Gregor. Midweek, they beat Deportivo Santaní in the Copa Paraguay, qualifying for the quarterfinals. They will be facing minnows Resistencia at a neutral venue in a few days, with good chances of reaching the semifinals. As previously mentioned, their main target right now is to finish fourth, play Copa Libertadores – qualifiers – football next season. These lines were written before Sunday’s Nacional vs Libertad. The gap between Sol and Nacional was five points. If Nacional didn’t win their game, and Sol win theirs, the fight for the fourth spot in the “tabla acumulativa” will stay on.
Guaraní salvaged a point last weekend, equalizing Libertad 2-2 in the 86th minute, at home, but the game had some very bad news as well; 23-year-old left winger Brahian Ayala got seriously injured, and will stay out for six to seven months. Luis de la Cruz, who missed the game against Libertad due to cards, is back, and will take Ayala’s spot in the starting lineup. Guaraní keep fighting for a Copa Sudamericana ticket. They can earn it either finishing 7th or higher in the “tabla acumulativa”, the table in which all points from the Apertura and the Clausura are taken into account, or winning the Copa Paraguay, which doesn’t look that easy, but on the other hand, not impossible either. A win over Sol, pushes them in the top-7, and on Thursday they are facing Cerro Porteño in a Copa Paraguay quarterfinal, a knock-out match at a neutral venue.
