Sol de America vs Independiente Medellin
Competition: Copa Sudamericana
Date: 13 April 2018
Kick-off: 02:30 CET
Sol de América hadn’t won in three games before hosting Sportivo Luqueño on Sunday, but I backed them not only to win (2.15), but also to score enough to push the game over 2.5 goals. That combination was at 3.50, and it paid off, as Sol won the game 3-1. Even in the three games they hadn’t won, they were anything but bad, and deserved more in all three. They are fourth in the table in Paraguay’s Apertura, slightly better than last season, when they finished 5th, combining both halves, Apertura and Clausura. Most of all, they play pleasing to the eye football, even in games that the result is not what they would like it to be. Last year they eliminated Estudiantes Caracas in the first round of the Sudamericana beating them twice (7-1 in Paraguay!), but Ponte Preta proved too good for them in the second round.
Things could be much better at Independiente Medellín. Last weekend they lost 2-0 in the city’s big derby against Atlético Nacional, right after which, a senior member of the board of directors didn’t hide that there is skepticism regarding Ismael Rescalvo, the coach, who, according to some, is not making full use of the team’s roster. On top of that, Germán Cano, their 30-year-old Argentine striker, their top scorer, didn’t make the trip to Paraguay, due to an injury. Central defender Jorge Segura and attacking midfielder Daniel Cataño also stayed back, dealing with their own injury issues. DIM finished fourth in last season’s championship in Colombia (combining both halves). They are fourth at the moment, on 22 points from 13 matches.

Sol de America vs Independiente Medellin: Prediction
Sol are considered slight favourites to win the game, and deep down I expect them to do so, without underestimating Independiente. Sol have been looking very good for weeks now, they have a full squad, are playing at home, so they have lots of things going for them.
Sol de America vs Independiente Medellin: Betting Tips
Sol’s win is at 2.45 betting odds. In “draw no bet”, it goes down to 1.72. I’m leaving goals aside, because I expect the Colombians to do absolutely everything to “kill” the game’s tempo. From all South Americans, I feel Colombians are the best (or, depending on how you see it, the “worst”) in wasting time when the result of a game is fine for them.
