Southampton vs Arsenal
Competition: England Premier League
Date: 16 December 2018
Kick-off: 14:30 CET
Southampton haven’t beaten anyone in 90 minutes since the first day of September(!). Ever since that 0-2 at Crystal Palace, they have beaten/eliminated Everton in the League Cup, but that was on penalties, after a 1-1 draw. Last weekend they lost at Cardiff, 1-0, yet another defeat. They are on just nine points from 16 matches, obviously below the relegation line. Only Huddersfield have scored less than them thus far this season, and they also have the third worst defensive record. They are expected to start with McCarthy, Targett, Vestergaard, Bednarek, Valery, Armstrong, Lemina, Hojbjerg, Romeu, Redmond and Austin. They have several players with injury problems, Stephens, Cédric Soares, Obafemi, Ings, Bertrand and Long. Despite their super poor season, do keep in mind that they have stayed undefeated in four of their last five home games. They lost only to Chelsea, a clear 0-3.
Lucas Torreira scored for Arsenal in the 84th minute last weekend to earn them all three points against Huddersfield at home, a narrow 1-0, good enough to give the Gunners their fourth win in five matches. Make that five out of six now, as they beat Qarabag as well on Thursday, another 1-0. The London side had already qualified for the last 32 of the Europa League before kickoff. They finished last weekend 5th in the table, on 34 points, as many as 4th-placed Chelsea. Unai Emery is expected to have Leno, Lichtsteiner, Monreal, Koscielny, Bellerin, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Torreira, Guendouzi, Lacazette and Aubameyang in the starting lineup. The Arsenal manager cannot count on injured Mustafi, Holding, Welbeck and Mavropanos. The Gunners haven’t lost in their last 22 matches. Their last defeat was on August 18, a 3-2 at Chelsea.

Southampton vs Arsenal: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Southampton, two for Arsenal as well (more recent than those of Southampton), and a draw, in the last five games between these two with the Saints as hosts.
Southampton vs Arsenal: Prediction
Southampton have lost just one of their last five matches at home, drawing in the other four. In their last game as hosts, they drew 2-2 with Manchester United. Even so, I trust Arsenal to earn all three points.
Southampton vs Arsenal: Betting Tips
Arsenal’s win is at 1.95, good enough, I reckon, to avoid risking further with number of goals.
