Sparta Prague vs Trabzonspor
Competition: UEFA Europa League
Date: 8 August 2019
Kick-off: 18:00 CET
Sparta Prague didn’t have to play in the first two qualifying rounds, but they have already played four official matches this summer, as the championship in Czechia started almost a month ago. They have had… mixed results; they lost to Slovacko at home on their debut, but have earned seven points from three matches since, and just last weekend they easily beat Pribram 3-0 at home. Having written that, it should be mentioned that two of their three goals came from the penalty spot. They have a new man in charge, Vaclav Jilek. He took over something over a month ago, and up to now he has looked super demanding, focusing on some of his team’s shortcomings even after positive results. For example, last weekend, with Guélor Kanga having scored twice, Jilek pointed out that both goals were scored from the penalty spot. The Gabonese scored in their two previous championship matches as well, he is on four goals already, but his coach expects more.
Just like Sparta, Trabzonspor didn’t have to play in the first two qualifying rounds, but unlike the Prague side, Trabzonspor haven’t played any official match yet this summer. Actually, their championship starts after the return leg against Sparta. What was… eye-catching in their friendly matches, was that they drew, drew again, and again, and… yet again. Despite the lack of official matches, Ünal Karaman, their coach, was crystal clear on Monday, talking to reporters: Trabzonspor are ready, and will prove so in Prague. He also talked about Sparta’s strongest point, the way he sees things, their ability to make the most of their counterattacks. He implied that at least in the first leg, in Czechia, he won’t… mind leaving ball possession to the hosts.

The hosts are considered favorites to win, but I don’t see that. Despite Trabzonspor’s lack of official matches, I can see them earn a draw in Prague.
