Sport Recife vs Avai
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 10 September 2017
Kick-off: 21:00 CET
“Gremio to win and keep a clean sheet” was my tip on Gremio vs Sport Recife a week ago, during the international break, and it came good, paying its 2.20. Truth be written though, I didn’t expect Sport to lose 5-0(!). How much things can change in a few weeks… A month ago, Vanderlei Luxemburgo was hailed as the man behind Sport Recife’s transformation into a seemingly unbeatable team. A streak of bad results has put them in a very difficult position, with members of the board going that far as to suggest that what the team need is a change of coach, so as to “wake the team up”. Sport are the only ones without a single win in their last five Brasileirao matches, and this game could very well be Luxemburgo’s last(!) is the hosts fail to win.
Who would have thought a month ago that Avai would go undefeated in four consecutive matches… Ok, three of those were at home, and their away game was at lowly Vitoria, but even so, picking up eight points in four matches is a major deal for Avai, who beat Chapecoense 1-0 at home just before the international break. They remain below the relegation line, but they are level on points with Vitoria, the first team right above that line. They have scored just 13 goals in 22 Serie A matches so far this season, they have without… competition the worst scoring record, but at least these last weeks they have looked effective enough to get some big results.

Sport Recife vs Avai: Head to head Stats
Sport beat Avai both in 2015 and 2013, 3-0 and 2-0 respectively, the last two times they hosted them. Before that, the two teams hadn’t played in Recife since 2009.
Sport Recife vs Avai: Prediction
Despite Sport Recife’s awful record in August, I’m backing them to return to victories, even though their 1.53 is way too low.
Sport Recife vs Avai: Betting Tips
To make Sport’s win worth it, betting-wise, I’m combining it with a clean sheet. This pushes their win up to a much better 2.25. They have conceded in seven of their last eight games, but somehow in this specific game I expect them to… remind everyone of the team that kept six consecutive clean sheets(!) back in June and July.
