Sport Recife vs Bahia
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 19 November 2017
Kick-off: 20:00 CET
How… cruel football can be… Is it possible a team to have the first six scoring chances in a match, the first six, and still lose the game 5-1?(!) It is. Ask Sport Recife. “Palmeiras and over 2.5 goals” was the suggestion here midweek, Palmeiras beat Sport indeed, 5-1, but the Recife side had six, I repeat, six chances in the first half, period during which, Palmeiras hardly stepped foot in Sport’s box. Sport even missed a great chance early in the second half, but once Palmeiras scored their first goal in the 57th minute (yes, a 5-1 that had no goals until the 57th minute), they practically… collapsed. They did make it 3-1 at some point, but it was too late, already the 84th minute, and Palmeiras “punished” them with two more goals in added time. Sport are in big-big trouble, they are 18th, three points behind Vitoria and Ponte Preta, and the only positive they got from the game in Sao Paulo was the number of scoring chances they created.
I trusted Bahia to beat Santos at home midweek, and they did, 3-1, despite going 1-0 down just 17 minutes into the game. Thankfully for them, they equalized in a matter of minutes from the penalty spot, and had more little/big details going their way in the second half. An own goal, another clumsy challenge inside Santos’ box that led to another penalty, all going Bahia’s way, who earned their third win in their last four matches, having a draw as well. Going even further back, they have four wins and two draws in their last six matches, numbers that show how they have managed to climb 9th in the table, and dream of playing Copa Libertadores football next season (qualifiers, not group stage). Under certain circumstances, even 9th will be good enough for Bahia to get a Libertadores ticket (they need both Gremio and Flamengo to win the Libertadores and the Sudamericana respectively this season, so as to “empty” more spots for Serie A teams).

Sport Recife vs Bahia: Head to head Stats
Two wins for Sport and three draws in the last five games between these two in Recife. Only one of those five matches went over 2.5 goals.
Sport Recife vs Bahia: Prediction
I keep betting against Sport for weeks now, and it has paid off, as they are going through a prolonged… losing streak, but weird as it may look to some, in this specific match I actually expect them to win (just as I expect Bahia to score as well).
Sport Recife vs Bahia: Betting Tips
My main tip is “both teams to score”, at 1.85 betting odds. Sport’s win pays 2.00, and combined with over 2.5 goals it goes up to a much better 3.30.
