Sport Recife vs Botafogo
Competition: Brazil Serie A
Date: 9 November 2017
Kick-off: 00:00 CET
Sport Recife should be thanking Douglas, Chapecoense’s defender, for the point their earned at Arena Conda last weekend. Anselmo saw a direct red card in the 59th minute for a… pointlessly harsh foul at the center of the field, and if that wasn’t bad enough for Sport, they went 1-0 down less than ten minutes later, when the referee showed the penalty spot inside their box. Playing with ten men, losing, and being desperate to earn at least a point, Sport had no choice but to risk, risk big, but not only they didn’t pay for that (Chapecoense didn’t create a single serious scoring chance in the last 25 minutes), but deep into added time, Douglas conceded one of the silliest penalties of the season, touching the ball with his lifted hand, because… only he knows why. André didn’t miss from the penalty spot, he scored his 12th goal of the season, and Sport escaped from Chapeco with a golden point, staying right above the relegation line.
Botafogo’s players should be beating themselves up for the way they lost to Fluminense last weekend. They took the lead less than 60 seconds into the game, and, read this, that was the second time in the match they were threatening Flu. They remained in control of the game until the 62nd minute, when Fluminense equalized. A draw wouldn’t have been a particularly positive result for Botafogo, so they kept pushing for a second goal. What was the result of that? Fluminense counterattack in the 86th minute, 1-2, shock for Botafogo, who missed a big chance to move closer to the top-4 positions. They remain sixth, not bad, anything but bad, but they did miss a great opportunity to boost their chances of playing Copa Libertadores group stage football next season.

Sport Recife vs Botafogo: Prediction
Sport haven’t won in their last eight home games(!), and I don’t expect them to win this one either, despite being considered relatively clear favorites by betting companies to pick up all three points.
